Abstract

Different nitrogen (0, 4, 8, 12, 16 and 20 kg da-1) fertilizer doses were applied to Pehlivan and Bezostaja-1 bread varieties in a split plot experimental design under Elazığ climate conditions in the 2020-2021 wheat growing season. The aim of the study was to investigate the effects of nitrogen fertilizer doses on grain quality characteristics of bread wheat varieties. In the research, grain quality characteristics such as thousand grain weight, protein, starch, ash, oil, moisture, gluten and fiber ratios of bread wheat varieties were examined. In the study, the differences between the varieties in terms of thousand grain weight and ash content were found to be statistically significant. Other examined characteristics did not create statistical differences among bread wheat varieties. While the Bezostaja-1 variety had a higher value than the Pehlivan variety in thousand grain weight, it was determined that the Pehlivan variety had a higher value in ash ratio. It was determined that the differences between the varieties were not significant in terms of other characteristics examined. The different nitrogen doses applied had a statistically significant positive effect on all the characteristics examined except oil ratio. Among the examined traits, higher values were obtained in 20 kg da-1 nitrogen application for thousand grain weight, ash ratio, moisture ratio values. In terms of protein ratio, starch ratio, gluten ratio and fiber ratio, 16 kg da-1 nitrogen application was considered to be statistically more suitable.
