Comparative Analysis of Tropical Butterfly Garden and Kalehan Ecdat Park in Konya Selçuklu District in Terms of User Preferences

Abstract

The users of Tropical Butterfly Garden and Kalehan Ecdat Park located in Selçuklu district of Konya province were selected as the research material. Existing data on the use of urban parks were examined through a detailed literature review and survey questions were prepared to determine the demographic characteristics and park usage habits of park users in the light of the data obtained from the literature. The survey questions included demographic characteristics of users (gender, age, education level, income level and occupation). In addition, parameters such as users' preferences for park visits, the purpose of using the parks, the units and equipment required in the parks, the benefits and activities provided by the parks were also included in the evaluation. In order to examine park usage, a face-to-face survey was conducted with park users according to the Snowball technique on random weekdays and weekends, based on the law on the protection of personal data and voluntary participation. The survey was conducted with the approval of the Ethics Committee of Selçuk University, Faculty of Architecture and Design. According to Güngör 2024, the population size was calculated to obtain reliable results from the survey. Considering the population of Konya province, Selçuklu district in 2024, a survey was conducted with a 95% confidence interval and a 5% margin of error, and a total of 220 people were surveyed. The collected data were determined by Chi-Square analysis using the SPSS program. Frequency distributions, cross tabulations and statistical analysis were carried out for the survey results. The data obtained from the survey were evaluated using quantitative and qualitative analysis techniques. Quantitative data were analyzed as frequencies and percentages and the relationships between demographic characteristics and park use were examined. Qualitative data were evaluated by content analysis method and the relationships between the expectations and needs of park users and park characteristics were determined and recommendations were developed.
