Professional Practice Knowledge in Interior Architecture Education, Exploration, Quantity Surveying and Approximate Cost

Abstract

Interior architecture education is a branch of science that covers topics such as design knowledge and skills, material knowledge, construction site application information and cost calculations as well as theoretical knowledge. In addition to the basic design knowledge of the students in the education process, there are also courses on professional practice. The aim of these courses is to address the procedures to be done before and during the application phase of the project in the construction site environment. In the interior design project, the quantity quantities of the materials decided in the design process according to the units, wastage calculations, position numbers, approximate cost (discovery) should be managed by the interior architect before proceeding to the application phase. In this context, the study examines the course content applied within the scope of Building Quantity Surveying and Exploration, which is a compulsory course in the 7th semester curriculum of Selçuk University Faculty of Architecture and Design, Department of Interior Architecture. Within the scope of the course, the interior design project stages of the physically determined space, survey, quantity survey, exploration and approximate cost calculations are discussed. Within the scope of the study, 4th year interior architecture students were asked to redesign the classroom number 411, where the Building Quantity Surveying and Exploration course was carried out, with the same function. Within the scope of the project, the design process, survey, quantity surveying, exploration and organization order of the works to be applied and approximate cost calculations were requested. It is expected that this study will contribute to the literature and provide an example of how approximate bill of quantities and cost calculations can be made in the field of interior architecture.
